Indian Coast Guard saves three lives
Port Blair, Jun 6: Indian Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh saved three lives by conducting a successful search and rescue operation in the Andaman Sea. On receipt of Information from Andaman & Nicobar Command, regarding missing of fishing boat MFV Rosita Reg No. ANB MV SA-668 ex Chidiyatapu, an extensive search and rescue operation was launched by Indian Coast Guard at 2000 hrs on 05th Jun 13.
ICGS Durgabai Deshmukh commanded by Commandant Atul Joshi, on Patrol in the Northern Group of Islands was diverted.
The ship arrived in area at 0200 hrs on 06th Jun 13 and commenced sector search. Confronting the inclement weather conditions and poor visibility, the boat was located 15 nautical miles off Port Blair at 0935 hrs on 06th Jun 13 after a dedicated search of 07 hours.
On investigation it was found that the engine of boat developed snag PM on 05th Jun and hence was adrift for more than 15 hrs. Further, the crew did not have any communication equipment with them. ICGS Durgabai Deshmukh provided first aid and food to the survivors, and the boat was taken under tow. The ship entered Port Blair harbour at 1400 hrs on 06th Jun 13 along with the boat and survivors. The condition of survivors has been reported to be stable.
