
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 26: The NSS Wing of JNRM, in association with MY Bharat, organised a Model Gram Sabha at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya on 24 April to commemorate the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992, and to promote grassroots democracy and civic participation.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome address delivered by Mr. G.C. Biswas. The keynote address was presented by Mr. Sukha Ranjan Biswas, Joint Director, MY Bharat, who highlighted the pivotal role of youth in nation-building. The Chief Guest, Dr. Pearl Devdas, Principal, JNRM, appreciated the efforts of the organisers and emphasised the importance of democratic values and active citizenship among students.
A video presentation on MY Bharat was screened and a Model Gram Sabha enacted by NSS volunteers. Students assumed the roles of various officials and deliberated on key issues related to rural development, including education, healthcare, sports, tourism, and youth engagement.
The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing various colleges across South Andaman. The programme offered valuable practical insights into grassroots governance and was highly appreciated by MY Bharat officials. Certificates were distributed to the participants by Mr. Ranjith, Assistant Director, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI), including a Pradhan and a Member Secretary from a village, also witnessed the event and shared their feedback.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Nidhi Shekhawat, Assistant Professor and NSS Nodal Officer, JNRM.
