Census 2027
Census 2027 is the 16th Census since 1872 and the 8th after Independence. Census 2027 marks a major shift to digital data collection using the Mobile App. A Portal is also being used for monitoring the real time progress of Census activities.
Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases: Phase I & Phase II
Phase I – Houselisting & Housing Census: Houselisting Census provides vital information on Housing Conditions, Amenities, Assets, and creates the frame for Population Enumeration.
Period of Phase I: 16th April 2026 to 15th May 2026 in the UT of A & N Islands
Phase II – Population Enumeration: Population Enumeration records individual particulars of every person.
Census is a Constitutional and statutory activity conducted under Article 246 (Union List) and the Census Act, 1948. Census data forms the foundation for planning, welfare schemes, resource allocation and Delimitation of Constituencies.
