
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 19: The much-awaited two-day Beach Sports Festival 2026 commenced with great enthusiasm and vibrant celebrations at Raman Bagicha in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The festival is being organized by the Tourism Department in coordination with the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Middle Andaman.
The picturesque beachfront venue came alive with energetic crowds, colorful decorations, and a festive atmosphere as participants and spectators gathered from across the region. The event was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, Ms. Sita Majhi, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Rangat in the presence of guest of honour, Mr. Sujit Mistry, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Nimbutala. Mr. Deepanshu Vohara, Assistant Commissioner welcomed the gathering.
In her inaugural address, Ms. Sita Majhi highlighted the importance of such events in promoting sportsmanship, tourism, and community engagement in the islands. Other dignitaries also lauded the efforts of the organizers in creating a platform for local talent and encouraging youth participation.
The opening day witnessed thrilling competitions in beach volleyball, 100-meter sprint, tug of war, and beach kabaddi, drawing enthusiastic participation from athletes and teams. The cheers of the crowd and the competitive spirit added to the lively ambiance of the festival. The events were conducted by Mr. G Nagesh Rao, AD(I/C) (Sports), Directorate of Education.
The Beach Sports Festival 2026 aims not only to promote sports but also to highlight the natural beauty and tourism potential of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The event will continue tomorrow with more competitions and activities, promising an equally exciting experience for visitors and participants alike.
The festival is scheduled from 9 AM to 5 PM over the two days, inviting locals and tourists to be a part of this grand celebration by the sea.
