Though for the name sake Andaman and Nicobar Administration have a Model school but the question is whether the school is really a ‘Model’ school for others schools to follow.
Some policies of Education Department are so discouraging that teachers get disheartened and dejected even after giving their best performance.
The best example of this is the transfer policy of Education Department. Usually in every department, staffs producing best results are honoured but in Education Department there is no trend of recognizing the contributions of best performing teachers.
A teachers producing hundred percent result after working hard for complete one year get same of treatment from the Department as a teacher who brings zero percent results. In normal case the Education Department should honour the best performing teachers by giving him choice posting in next session but in A & N Islands, best performing teacher is honoured by a transfer order to a remote place in next session.
When every teacher in Education Department knows that they would be transferred to some of the remote Islands, irrespective of their performance, they prefer to play cool and deliver ordinary results.
The Education must set up a true ‘Model School’ at Port Blair, where only teachers of great repute and extra-ordinary performance should be posted. This will not only motivate all teachers to perform well in their respective school but also bless Port Blair with a true ‘Model School’.
