Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 06: The President of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Rangalal Halder, has urged the Secretary (Health), A&N Administration, to take immediate steps for the installation of a dialysis unit at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Billiground, in North & Middle Andaman.
In his letter, Mr. Halder highlighted the urgent need for establishing a dialysis facility at PHC Billiground, pointing out the severe difficulties faced by patients suffering from kidney-related ailments in the region. At present, patients are compelled to travel long distances to access dialysis services at Community Health Centre (CHC) Rangat, approximately 30 kilometers away, or CHC Mayabunder, around 40 kilometers away.
He further stated that these existing centres are already overburdened, resulting in long waiting times and delays in treatment which makes it extremely challenging for residents of Billiground and nearby areas to receive timely and adequate medical care.
Mr. Halder emphasized that patients requiring regular dialysis are often in fragile health conditions, and frequent travel over such distances causes significant physical strain, financial hardship, and emotional distress to both patients and their families.
Considering the growing number of dialysis patients and the hardships faced by the local population, Mr. Halder stressed that the installation of a dialysis unit at PHC Billiground would serve as a vital, life-saving facility which not only improve accessibility to essential healthcare services but also reduce the burden on patients residing in remote areas of North & Middle Andaman.
He has, therefore, earnestly requested the Administration to kindly take necessary and expeditious action for the early installation of a dialysis unit at PHC Billiground in the larger interest of public health and welfare.
