Diglipur, April 02: The streets of Diglipur were transformed into a sea of devotion and color yesterday as the town celebrated Panguni Uthiram with traditional fervor. Marking the auspicious alignment of the Uthiram star with the full moon in the Tamil month of Panguni, the festival drew thousands of pilgrims from neighboring villages to witness the “celestial weddings” of the deities.
As per report, the 10-day Panguni Uthiram Festival which started with the inaugural festival (Kappukattu) ceremony on 23rd (Monday) March 2026 culminated yesterday. As per the program of the festival, Panguni Uthiram started on 23rd March and different devotees/Mandagapadis of Diglipur offered poojas on different days starting from 23rd March April to 1st April in the evening after taking out a procession. After the pooja, annadhanam was offered to devotees at night each day. On 1st April (Wednesday) Panguni Uthiram was celebrated. As per the program of the festival, the pooja started at 06:30 A.M. and the milk pot procession started in the afternoon. The devotees offered pooja in Sri Sri Radhagovinda Temple and then performed Vel Vel rituals in the Kalpong River yesterday afternoon. The devotees then started a procession from Sri Sri Radhagovinda Temple to Sri Vadivel Murugan Temple. The devotees carrying beautifully decorated structures that symbolized their faith, gradually moved forward, while a part of the festival some devotees pierced their tongues and cheeks with Vel skewers and danced as a ritual practice, and which is a deeply spiritual experience meant to purify the soul and strengthen their connection with Lord Murugan. After reaching Sri Vadivel Murugan Temple, the devotees then practised firewalk in the evening. Sri Vadivel Murugan Temple then arranged Annadhanam as part of the festival after the firewalks and pooja at night in the Murugan Temple premises. Deeba Aaradhana was performed at 09:00 P.M., Sree Vadivel Murugan Temple, Committee said.
Despite the large turnout, the local administration and police ensured a smooth flow of traffic and crowd management, the report said.
