Port Blair, Feb 23: Two seamen got serious injuries today when cable of a life boat of MV Campbell Bay snapped this morning. According to information received here two seamen Mr. Selva and Mr. Mandal had climbed into the life boat for regular maintenance works, when the cables of the life boats snapped, causing the accident. One of the seamen reportedly sustained injuries on his head and got bleeding from nose. Immediately both the seamen were rushed to G B Pant Hospital.
Why the Cable (which should have the strength of carrying atleast 20 persons onboard the life boat) snapped is still not known. Various media reports published earlier, have already highlighted that MV Campbell is having more than 70 defects and the ship is not sea worthy. Today’s accident has again proved that worst quality materials have been used for building the ship and the Administration accepted the ship without even questioning the ship builders.
