
Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 29: A mock drill on earthquake preparedness was conducted on 29th March at Dr. S. R. District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Garacharma, with the objective of strengthening disaster preparedness and response capabilities among trainees and faculty members.
The programme was organized under the guidance of the Principal, DIET, in collaboration with the Fire Department, Health Department, Police Department, and the NDRF team. The drill commenced with an address by Dr. Swapan Kumar, State Consultant (Disaster Management), who highlighted the importance of preparedness and coordinated response during disaster situations.
During the session, Mr. Arjun Pal Rajput, Inspector, NDRF, interacted with the participants and emphasized the significance of disaster awareness and vigilance during emergencies. Dr. B. Ajit Kumar, State Nodal Officer, and Dr. Rajesh Kumar Ghosh, Assistant Nodal Officer (Disaster Management – Health) also addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of timely medical intervention and maintaining mental composure during disasters.
Officials from Fire Station Garacharma, including Mr. N. Suresh (Station Officer) and Mr. Iqtedar Bux (Second Officer), along with the fire safety team, demonstrated essential emergency response techniques and fire safety procedures. The team was accompanied by Mr. Sunil Kumar from the Disaster Management Cell, A & N Police.
A total of 132 trainees and 35 faculty members actively participated in the mock drill.
