Port Blair, May 30: PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Shipping Ministry to declare Campbell Bay as a Transhipment Port with bunkering station for ships crossing through the Campbell.
In his letter Sharma has stated that such Transhipment Port will fetch a good amount of foreign exchange as well as it will boost the economy of the inhabitant of the islands and rapid development of the area and requested that the proposal for setting up a transhipment Port with bunkering station at Campbell Bay may be considered so as to cater large numbers of traffic.
Further to it he has also requested for developing tourism industries in these islands. He wrote that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is naturally gifted for its scenic beauty and best suited for the tourist development.
This is the only sector which can be developed in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, to provide jobs for educated unemployed youths and will also help to augment the economic condition of the inhabitants of the islands. In Middle and North Andaman, Diglipur, Mayabunder, Baratang, Neil Kendra, Long Island, and Hutbay there are so many places of tourist interests which can be developed to attract tourists to develop tourism industries in these islands.
Hence the Congress Party requested that a master plan may be prepared for the purpose.
