“World No Tobacco Day” is being commemorated on 31st May 2013. This year’s theme “Ban Tobacco Advertising, Promotion and Sponsorship” highlights the health risks associated with use of tobacco and advocates effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
Tobacco is the single most preventable cause of death globally and is currently responsible for killing one in ten adults worldwide. Unless we act, the Tobacco epidemic will kill more than 8 million people every year by 2030. More than 80% of these deaths will be in low and middle income countries like India.
All tobacco users and smokers are advised to quit tobacco and join hands with civil society to make Andaman & Nicobar Islands “Tobacco Free”.
