Baratang, March 01: In a swift and commendable emergency response, firefighters from Fire Station (FS) Baratang successfully contained a major fire at the Bitumen Heating Plant of M/s Mohan Mutha Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. in Sundargarh, Baratang.
According to official information, the fire call was received at 1549 hours today. Upon arrival, the firefighting team found a 20-ton bitumen tank engulfed in flames. The blaze posed a serious threat to nearby areas and had the potential to disrupt the ongoing NH-04 road construction works.
Acting promptly, the firefighters deployed a water tender, a multi-utility vehicle, foam compound, and dry chemical powder to combat the flames. Through coordinated and efficient efforts, the team brought the fire under control within half an hour, preventing further escalation.
Officials stated that the timely intervention minimized risks to personnel and surrounding property. Approximately ₹80 lakhs worth of property was saved, ensuring continuity of the crucial infrastructure project. Importantly, no casualties were reported, and all plant employees were safely evacuated.
During the operation, the fire service personnel worked closely with plant management to ensure safe handling of the situation. The company’s management and staff later commended the firefighters for their prompt and courageous response.
The incident stands as a testament to the preparedness and professionalism of the FS Baratang team, whose swift action averted what could have been a major disaster.
