Baratang, Feb. 25: Firefighters from Fire Station (FS) Baratang responded to an emergency call at 8:40 pm on February 25, 2026, after a massive tree fell across the road beneath a high-tension electricity line, blocking an ambulance transporting a critically injured patient, Smt. Nambiyamma (victim of the Pawan Hans helicopter accident), from CHC Mayabunder to Sri Vijayapuram. The team swiftly mobilized with cutting and lifting tools, including chain saws and LED tower lights, ensuring the patient received timely medical attention. The situation was critical, with power lines posing a serious risk, but the team worked efficiently to clear the road. It was further ensured that the tree was removed safely, avoiding any electrical hazards. The ambulance was then able to proceed to Sri Vijayapuram, saving precious time.
The team reached the spot promptly, minimizing the risk to the patient. They cut and removed the tree using chain saws, ropes, crowbars, and hooks, clearing the road in 20 minutes, prioritizing the patient’s safety.
The Fire Services team, comprising five personnel, coordinated with the Electricity Department to ensure safe removal. The team members were ASI S. Subba Raj, ASI (SG) G. Ajit Kumar, HC (SG) 330 S. Sugumaran, HC (SG) 1076 Rajesh Gupta, and HC (SG) 2482 T. Krishna Rao.
Because of their efforts, the patient was safely transported to Sri Vijayapuram, with no loss of life or property reported. Commuters and the patient’s family thanked the firefighters for their dedication and quick response. The patient, who was a victim of the Pawan Hans helicopter accident, required urgent medical attention. The timely intervention not only saved the patient’s life but also prevented potential electrical hazards.
