Port Blair, May 20: It is mandatory to have door to door collection in all the days including Sundays and holidays as prescribed in the Solid Waste Management 85 Handling Rules, 2000. It is further been prescribed that the waste of biodegradable and non – biodegradable are also to be collected separately from individual households.
In this regard Shri P.B. Murugan, Chairperson, Municipal Council held a meeting with the Sanitary Officer, all Sr. Sanitary Inspectors and Sanitary Inspectors of the Council on 17/5/2013 in the Conference Hall of the Council.
During the course of discussion in the meeting it was emerged that no appointment has been made in the Sanitary section since long. The sanitary workers strength has been reduced considerably due to death/retirement and termination of the labours due to long absent from duty. Therefore the present strength of sanitary workers is inadequate to handle the mandatory issues in a proper manner.
In conclusion it has been decided to enhance the present strength of Safai Karmacharies by engaging new hands on Muster Roll so as to keep the city neat and clean in an hygienic manner. Shri P.B. Murugan, Chairperson, PBMC directed the Sanitary Wing of the Council to initiate all action to keep the city neat and tidy.
