Port Blair, May 16: A special meeting of Zilla Parishad was held under the Chairmanship of Mrs. Abala Samaddar, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman on 16.05.2013 at 10.30 am in the Conference Hall of the Zilla Parishad. The main agenda was installation of a statue of the Late Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, in the premises of the Zilla Parishad. The house unanimously agreed to fix a statue as proposed. It was also proposed and agreed by all the members that an exposure visit to Himachal Pradesh may be made by all the members of the Zilla Parishad sometime in the first week of July, 2013 as one of the Zilla Parishad of Himachal Pradesh had won the Rajiv Gandhi Sashaktheekaran Puraskar for adopting innovative measures to strengthen the Panchayati Raj Institutions.
It was also proposed by one of the Zilla Parishad Members that proceedings of the Zilla Parishad Meetings should be telecaste live and if required, the relevant rules of the Panchayati Raj Regulation may be amended. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Adhyaksha.
