Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 24: D. Ayyappan, Secretary, Mr. B. Chandrachoodan, State Secretariat Member and Mr. SP Kalairajan, SOC Member of CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee attended the meeting convened by the Chief Electoral Officer, A & N Islands in the Secretariat on 23rd December, 2025. Draft electoral rolls for the A & N Islands Parliamentary Constituency, prepared under SIR-2026, were released in the meeting.
A press release issued by CPI(M) today claimed that nearly 52,000 islanders have been excluded from the electoral rolls in addition to those who died and were included in other areas. Speaking in the meeting, Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) vehemently opposed exclusion of such a large number of islanders from the electoral rolls. He said that such a large-scale exclusion of islanders from the electoral rolls is part of a nation-wide exercise by the Election Commission of India and BJP-led government at the centre to get rid of millions of voters from the electoral rolls in the country.
