Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 18: A meeting was convened by Adhyaksh, N&M Andaman, Mr. Shribash Ch. Das, attended by contractors of Diglipur, and public representatives recently. The deliberations focused on key concerns related to the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the availability and regulation of quarry products, the issue of sea sand, and other challenges being faced by local contractors as well as the general public.
During the discussions, the contractors and public representatives highlighted the difficulties encountered in the execution of developmental works due to procedural and logistical constraints. Special emphasis was laid on the need for improved coordination, timely availability of construction materials, and effective maintenance of road infrastructure, which are vital for the overall development of Diglipur and surrounding areas.
After detailed and constructive deliberations, and in view of the larger public interest, it was proposed that execution of National Highway-4 (NH-4) should be handed over to the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD). This decision is expected to enhance efficiency in maintenance, ensure better local supervision, and facilitate smoother implementation of infrastructure projects in the region and provide employment opportunities to local unemployed youth.
The decision to hand over NH-4 to APWD is being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure management in North and Middle Andaman and is anticipated to bring long-term benefits to local contractors, commuters, and the general public of Diglipur.
