
Sri Vijaya Puram, 03 Dec: (PIB) The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, celebrated World Disability Day with the support of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Smt. Sumita, Director, CRC, warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the Centre’s ongoing commitment to strengthening rehabilitation services across the Islands.
The event was graced by Dr. Sachin Shinde, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health & Persons with Disability Planning Department, and Shri Parvesh Ranjan Jha, Secretary, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, as Chief Guests.
In his address, Dr. Sachin Shinde reiterated the Administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). He remarked that disabilities may arise due to various reasons, making it essential to have a strong healthcare delivery system and robust social support mechanisms for early detection. He added that timely interventions can significantly reduce long-term impacts and improve quality of life.
Dr. Shinde emphasized the crucial role of skill development training for children with special needs. He praised CRC for providing multiple interventions aimed at equipping children with essential skills that help them become self-reliant and contributing members of society.
Shri Parvesh Ranjan Jha also appreciated CRC’s initiatives and encouraged continued collaboration to empower PwDs through education, training, and community-based support.
The programme concluded with vibrant cultural performances by special children, showcasing their talents and celebrating the spirit of inclusion.
