Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 03: In a heartfelt appeal, Ajoy Bairagi, National Council Member and former State President of BJP, A&N Islands, has requested the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to address the financial hardship faced by elderly, widows, differently-abled (Divyang), and destitute people in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In his letter dated 1st December 2025, Bairagi highlights the dire situation of these vulnerable sections of society, who are currently receiving a meager pension of just Rs. 2500 per month. He points out that the rising cost of living in the islands makes it impossible for individuals to sustain themselves on such a small amount.
Bairagi has urged the Prime Minister to consider a one-time increase in the pension amount to Rs. 5000 per month as a social welfare measure to ease the financial strain on the affected families. The plea emphasizes that this increase would significantly help improve the quality of life for the marginalized communities living in the region.
The letter also calls for the matter to be addressed on humanitarian grounds, requesting that the enhancement of the pension be implemented at the earliest.
The letter has been copied to the Lieutenant Governor of A&N Islands for their information and necessary action.
Bairagi has expressed hope for a positive, time-bound response from the government to alleviate the suffering of these vulnerable groups.
