Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 20: Campus Calling is a flagship program of National Commission for Women to ensure cyber safety and physical safety of young women, said the Chairman Mrs. Vijaya Rahatkar. While inaugurating a Workshop on Gender Sensitization and Cyber Awareness here at Andaman Law College on Thursday, she stressed the need to spread awareness among the student population as a first step towards their safety and well-being. Physical safety is protected through the POSH Act, and cyber safety can be ensured through awareness and alertness. As the digital world is passing through a sea change with the advent of AI, the girls need to be more vigilant and aware of the consequences of getting ‘trapped’ and ‘cheated,’ she underlined. While using internet in the digital world the dos and don’ts need to be campaigned in a big way and the campus calling is a program to address this issue she said. The Viksit Bharat will be made possible in the year 2047 with empowered women, she said. She further emphasized the geostrategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Principal ALC Prof. P.V. Nagendra Sarma presided over the meeting. The Chairperson issued five-girl students of Andaman Law College as Brand Ambassadors of the NCW mission. The girls are Bineta Sen Ba, Suparna Sarkar, K Artiga, Keerthana Shree V K, and M Priya Darshini. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar administered the ‘gender equality’ oath to all. Ms. Nisha Sikdar coordinated. Later, the NCW Chairperson, along with other NCW member Dr. Archana Mazumdar, made a visit to the Free Legal Aid Services Clinic attached to the college. She complimented the college for taking up pro bono litigation.
Two technical sessions followed the program, by Mrs. Rubina Siddiqui and Ms. Aurghya Mandal on the POSH Act and Cyber Security respectively. While proposing a vote, Principal Dr. PVN Sarma appealed to the chairperson to give priority to Andaman Law College students in internships. Students participated enthusiastically in large numbers and made the program successful.
