
Sri Vijaya Puram, November 20: (PIB) The Andaman and Nicobar State Cooperative Union, in collaboration with the Department of Cooperation, organised the valedictory function of the 72nd All India Cooperative Week at Teylarabad, South Andaman District.
Mr. Rajesh Chopra, IAS, Secretary and Registrar of Cooperative Societies attended the function as the Chief Guest and presented awards to various cooperative societies under different categories. In his address, Mr. Chopra highlighted the vital role played by cooperative societies in strengthening rural and local economies, contributing significantly to the realization of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
He further informed that Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) across the Islands are undergoing digitalisation to ensure effective implementation of government schemes, particularly those related to essential banking services for the welfare of the public.
The Chief Guest also outlined several agricultural schemes available for farmers and urged the public to make use of Common Service Centres (CSCs) for availing various government services and benefits.
Mr. Chopra added that Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras will soon be established through cooperative societies in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He also announced that the Andaman & Nicobar Cooperative Union will commence LPG distribution services and set up petrol pumps in the Islands. Additionally, the operation and maintenance of tap water connections will be taken up by Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies.
Earlier, Mr. Abubakar General Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar cooperative union welcomed the gathering. More than 50 representatives from various cooperative unions across the Islands participated in the programme.
