
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 14: A one-day awareness on Promotion of socioeconomic status and self-employment of Nicobarese tribes through ethno veterinary tribal medicinal knowledge and herbal production development’’ was organized at Livestock farm complex, ICAR-CIARI under the DST funded project. A total of 30 Nicobari tribal college students of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Sri Vijaya Puram participated in this programme. During the programme, Dr. T.Sujatha, Pr.Scientist and coordinator of the programme presented details of what ethno veterinary medicine is, its role and importance as a part of one health programme. She motivated the students to use herbal decoctions for minor ailments of both human and animal to combat the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. She also briefed about many simple herbal formulations for various diseased conditions such as deworming, ectoparasitic ides, bloat, diarrhoea and viral infections in livestock and poultry. The participants got knowledge on this new avenue and area of global importance.
