Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 02: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India, New Delhi in collaboration with Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), MoES, GoI, Hyderabad will conduct the Inter State Mock Exercise (ISME) – 2025 on Earthquake and Tsunami in the A&N Islands on 04th November 2025.
This exercise aims to test the Incident Response System (IRS) of ANI, evaluate the readiness and coordination of emergency response mechanisms, and strengthen disaster preparedness across the A&N Islands by involving all Emergency Support Functionaries (ESFs), Incident Response Teams (IRTs), and local communities. The exercise forms a vital component of the Administration’s continuous efforts to enhance preparedness, coordination, and resilience of all response agencies.
The Director (Disaster Management), A&N Administration has requested the general public to extend their full cooperation during the forthcoming mock exercise on earthquake and tsunami preparedness. He has advised all residents to remain calm and continue with their normal routine activities, as the exercise is a scheduled preparedness drill and poses no real threat to public safety.
Key Activities during the Exercise
• Increased Emergency Presence: Citizens may notice increased movement of emergency vehicles such as PCR vans, Fire Tenders, Ambulances, and other specialized units across the Islands. These are part of the planned exercise and are not responding to an actual emergency.
• Simulated Scenarios: The mock exercise will simulate earthquake and tsunami-related incidents, including mock fires, medical emergencies, and evacuation drills, along with testing of sirens, public announcements, and SMS alerts. All activities will be conducted safely under the supervision of trained officials from NDMA, A&N Administration, and other stakeholders.
• Location and Timing: The exercise will be conducted across various locations in South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman, and Nicobar Districts on Nov. 4, from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Public Advisory
• The public have been requested not to panic due to the movement of emergency vehicles, sounds of sirens, or other exercise-related activities.
• This is a controlled simulation supervised by professional trainers and disaster management officials.
• Citizens are encouraged to continue their daily activities as usual; no special precautions or changes to routine are required.
• To minimize inconvenience, residents are advised to avoid designated mock drill areas, as minor traffic diversions or delays may occur. Kindly cooperate with police and traffic authorities at all locations.
• Any updates or changes related to the exercise will be communicated through local media, social media platforms, and official communication channels.
