Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 30: In an effort to highlight several long-pending issues faced by the people of Mayabunder, Mr. Abdul Siddique, Ex-Pramukh of Mayabunder, met Mr. Chandra Bhushan, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, at Sri Vijaya Puram today and submitted a memorandum seeking urgent administrative intervention on behalf of the local residents.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr. Siddique said that the main concerns raised during the meeting included the suspension and withdrawal of ship services—M.V. Nalanda and M.V. Sindhu—to Mayabunder and Diglipur, which has disrupted transportation and connectivity for islanders. He also pointed out the non-availability of a mortuary van at Mayabunder since the COVID period, causing serious hardship to families during emergencies.
Mr. Siddique further mentioned the pending development of the playground at Pokadera, which has long been awaited by the youth and sports enthusiasts of the area. He drew attention to the poor BSNL network coverage, particularly inside Dr. R.P. Hospital, where inpatients struggle to contact their families. He also cited frequent network failures in areas like Karmatang IX & X, Pokadera (Ward No. 04), and Danapur Gadda Basti, making communication extremely difficult for residents.
He said that the Chief Secretary’s immediate attention and action were sought to address these critical issues, which directly affect the day-to-day life of the public. Mr. Siddique also expressed his gratitude to the Chief Secretary for his valuable time and patient hearing, appreciating his assurance to look into the grievances raised on behalf of the people of Mayabunder.
