Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 19: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in association with the International Human Rights & Crime Control Organization (IHRCCO), organized a Legal Awareness Programme at Govt. Senior Secondary School, School Line, Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme aimed to spread legal awareness among students and the general public on crucial social and legal issues.
The event was graced by Mr. Sudhir Kumar, District Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Mr. Anupam Sircar, Judicial Magistrate First Class-cum-Civil Judge (Junior Division), Additional Court, Port Blair.
The key topics covered during the programme included Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, Protection of Children under the POCSO Act, and Prevention of Drug Abuse. Mrs. Saraswathi Narayan, National General Secretary & State President, IHRCCO, along with other officials of IHRCCO, and Mrs. Preeja Menon, Panel Lawyer, DLSA, actively participated in the event.
During the interactive sessions, students and teachers were sensitized about women’s rights, legal protections available to children, and the harmful effects of drug abuse. Awareness was also spread on Free Legal Aid, Lok Adalats, and various Legal Services Schemes implemented under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, who raised several legal queries, which were addressed in detail by the dignitaries.
The event concluded successfully with an encouraging response from the participants and a collective resolve to promote legal literacy and social awareness in the community.
