Port Blair, Apr 25: Following the incident of the death of a premature infant at Diglipur due of the non-availability of ship ticket to the patient mother for almost two weeks Andaman Sheekha contacted the Deputy Director Shipping Services to know the reasons why no additional ships are provided for the North and Middle Andaman District to tackle the problems of the passengers specially the senior citizens and the patients.
The Deputy Director Shipping Services Mr. Veeriah informed Andaman Sheekha that the Islands of North and Middle Andaman District are connected to Port Blair via Andaman Turnk Road so more preference is always given to the places, which are totally cut off from Port Blair and which can only be reached by sea and air.
However, he added that very soon they are going to deploy larger passenger vessel M.V Dering for North and Middle Andaman District so that the problems of the people who are intending to travel by the sea ways reduce and they get better services from the Directorate of Shipping Services. He further added that M.V Dering will be deployed as soon as the clearance for the vessel to sail is received and after that the problems of the residents of North and Middle Andaman District will be automatically solved.
