Port Blair, October 13: A major tragedy was averted today morning when a bike caught fire onboard Vehicle Ferry M.V. Mus due to a short circuit. The incident occurred at around 8:45 AM, while the ferry was carrying over 70 two-wheelers and more than 150 passengers.
Fireman Constable K.P. Mammu of the Andaman & Nicobar Police Fire Service, presently posted at the Armed Police Unit, displayed exceptional courage and presence of mind. Acting swiftly, he managed to contain the fire before it could spread to nearby vehicles or cause any harm to passengers. As per sources crew of the vessels also later came for assistance.
His timely and fearless action prevented what could have been a catastrophic mishap at sea. Witnesses onboard praised his composure and efficiency in handling the situation under pressure.
The Andaman & Nicobar Police officials also lauded Constable K.P. Mammu for his exceptional bravery and dedication to duty. The department shared details of his heroic act on social media, commending him as a true example of courage and service.
