
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 10: An Awareness Programme on the Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse was organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare under the campaign “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushaal Bharat” at JNRM College, Port Blair. The programme aimed to sensitize students and faculty members about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage a collective commitment towards a healthy, drug-free society. The session commenced with an opening address by Dr. Perl Devdas, HoD, Geography Department, in the presence of Heads of various departments of JNRM.
The event was graced by Mr. Ravindra Kumar, Director, Directorate of Social Welfare; Mr. A.K. Biswas, Nodal Officer, NAPDDR; Dr. Mahato, Medical Officer, IRCA; SI Sanjay Yadav, Anti-Narcotics, CID; and Officials from Directorate of Health and Services. During the session, dignitaries highlighted the ongoing initiatives of the Directorate under NAPDDR and the objectives of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, emphasizing community involvement, law enforcement, and youth participation in preventing drug abuse. They also discussed the adverse health impacts of substance abuse, growing concerns related to tobacco use, and the importance of spreading awareness. The Heads of Departments appreciated the programme and initiatives, gave positive feedback, and encouraged the Directorate to continue organizing such programmes in the future.
Certificates were distributed to students of 2nd year B.A. Economics and B.A. Home Science who completed their 30-day internship at the Directorate. Participants were encouraged to take the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge through a QR code as part of the campaign. The programme also marked the inauguration of 45 awareness programmes under NAPDDR, scheduled from October 2025 to March 2026, symbolically launched with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp at JNRM College.
