Shivapuram, Oct. 05: The condition of the National Highway under the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayat Shivapuram is in a dilapidated condition.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Shivapuram Mr. Venkateshwar Rao said that it is a matter of grave concern that the National Highway constructed during the initial development phase has been completely overlooked over the years. Presently, the condition of National Highway under the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayat Shivapuram is in a dilapidated condition; the road is strewn with potholes everywhere. Large swathes of road have become slippery owing to earth filling done by the NH maintenance team as a temporary solution, which is reportedly further bodging the road and making it very difficult for the daily commuters and local residents to travel.
And most seriously, subsiding has occurred at many places in the road owing to landslides and which may further damage the road. Moreover, the part of road where it has caved in has no sufficient space near it for its diversion, and hence immediate repair is inevitable, the Pradhan cautioned.
Further, Mr. Rao said that the NH at Panchawati near Karthick Tickery is in a dangerous condition posing threat to life and property, especially during the monsoon season when water flow increases significantly.
The risk of collapse or subsiding of road due to landslides is alarmingly high in some areas, and any untoward incident may result in heavy casualties or severe disruption of traffic movement and hence it needs urgent attention and repair, the Pradhan insisted. The
The Pradhan raising serious concerns on the dilapidated road, as the people of N & M Andaman hugely depend on this NH, has recently written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, N & M Andaman district to look into the matter and conduct an urgent inspection of the said damaged road and issue necessary direction to the NHIDCL officials for the urgent repair of the National highway and to construct the Retaining wall, Gabion wall, culvert as per the requirement before causing any serious damage to the life and property in the areas, he said.
