Sri Vijaya Puram, 28 Sept: A book on “Land and People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands” authored by Dr. Uday Kumar, Assistant Regional Director was released on Friday, 26th September, 2025 at IGNOU, Regional Centre Port Blair, Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The book was released by Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob, Regional Director, IGNOU, RC Port Blair.
The book was published by Rajesh Publications, Darya Ganj, New Delhi. In his brief highlight on the book, Dr. Uday Kumar said it was designed in such way that students, researchers and academics will immensely be benefited. The book will also be helpful to tourists having interest in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The author said it took him approximately two years of preparation to come out with the publication. The writing of this book has been a journey of rigorous reading, went to libraries, collecting information and continuous writing. The book contains two broad aspects: Land and People. The first aspect ‘Land’ deals with geological formation of Islands, geographical features with special reference to physiography, climatic conditions, drainage system, soils, natural vegetations and natural resources. The second aspect concerns to ‘People’, the special emphasis on the aboriginal tribes or primitive tribes and its socio-cultural features, demographic profiles, administrative structure, urbanisation and urban life, trade and transportation system, tourism, strategic significance of Islands and problems and prospects of development of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
