Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 25:The Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, in collaboration with Gram Panchayat Wandoor, organized a Beach Cleanliness and Plantation Drive at Wandoor under the theme ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign. The programme witnessed active participation of officials and staff of Gram Panchayat Wandoor, members of Dakshin Foundation, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and local residents, who came together to contribute towards a cleaner and greener environment.
During the drive, a total of 450 kgs of plastic and other solid waste and 50 kgs of marine litter were collected and removed from the beach. In addition, plantation activities were carried out along the beachside to strengthen coastal greenery and prevent soil erosion.
Addressing the gathering, the Director (RD), Dr. Apurva Sharma emphasized the importance of regular beach cleaning, environmental protection, and plantation drives for safeguarding the fragile coastal ecosystem of the Islands. He highlighted that such initiatives must become a community-driven regular practice to ensure long-term ecological balance.
The Pradhan of GP Wandoor also shared his views on the future roadmap for cleanliness activities and reaffirmed the Gram Panchayat’s commitment towards sustaining cleanliness and environmental conservation.
The programme concluded with a pledge by all stakeholders to actively participate in maintaining clean beaches, safe surroundings, and eco-friendly practices, in line with the vision of Swachh Bharat Mission–Grameen.
