Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2025, the Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, is organizing a series of events on the theme ‘Tourism & Sustainable Transformation’, in line with UNWTO’s global theme. The celebrations aim to highlight the importance of responsible tourism that protects the environment while promoting socio-economic growth. A series of activities and events have been planned across the Islands to mark the occasion, engaging stakeholders, tourists, and the local community.
Highlights of the celebrations:
• Underwater Photography Contest – Sept. 20-25, showcasing the breath-taking marine biodiversity of the Islands.
• Volleyball Tournament at Mini Stadium, Wimberlygunj – Sept. 25-26 from 9 AM – 5 PM. For registration and queries, one may contact 9434271809 or 9434263798.
• Traditional Welcome of Tourists at main entry point of Airport, National Memorial Cellular Jail, and jetties at Swaraj Dweep & Shaheed Dweep on Sept. 27.
• Free Entry to Museums on Sept. 27 – Chatham Saw Mill, Samudrika, Anthropological Museum, Fisheries Museum, and National Memorial Cellular Jail.
• Thematic Seminar – 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Conference of Megapode Nest, Haddo, featuring discussions on sustainable tourism practices, expert talks by tourism stakeholders, and the launch of key initiatives of the Tourism Department, A&N Administration.
• Cuisine of India Festival – The festivities will conclude with a grand Cultural Programme on Sept. 27 at ITF Ground from 3 PM to 10 PM, offering an evening of vibrant performances, entertainment, and celebration.
Winners of the various competitions will be awarded suitably by the Tourism Department on 27th September, 2025 at ITF Ground. Through these initiatives, the Administration seeks to raise greater awareness about the importance of sustainability in tourism, while celebrating the Islands’ rich cultural and natural heritage.
