Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 22: In a significant step towards safeguarding the well-being of children and creating a healthier and safer learning environment, the Science Wing of the Directorate of Education, A&N Administration, with the active involvement of the A&N Police, Directorate of Health Services, Department of Social Welfare, and NGOs organized a mega education and awareness programme across all Education Zones on Sept. 20. The initiative focused on sensitizing school students about the ill effects of tobacco and drug abuse, the provisions of the POCSO Act, and issues related to sexual abuse.
A total of 7,234 students actively participated in the programme, which featured awareness videos, power point presentations, and interactive discussions. The sessions not only highlighted the dangers of substance abuse but also empowered students with knowledge on how to protect themselves and seek help in vulnerable situations.
The Director of Education, A&N Islands, has announced that such education and awareness programmes will be held every Saturday in different schools, ensuring continuous outreach and engagement with young minds.
