Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 21: Internet and telecom connectivity in Great Nicobar has been completely disrupted since late Saturday afternoon, leaving the island totally cut off from the rest of the world.
Due to the breakdown, government servants posted in the remotest parts of the island have been unable to contact their families, while local residents are also finding themselves isolated with no means of communication.
Unconfirmed sources informed Andaman Sheekha Daily that the disruption may have been caused by possible damage to the undersea optical fiber cable connecting Great Nicobar. However, no official confirmation has been issued by BSNL so far.
Authorities are yet to share details regarding the cause of the outage or the timeline for restoration. Meanwhile, the communication blackout has caused significant inconvenience to both residents and officials, who await urgent resolution of the problem. More updates are expected once an official statement is released.
