Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 16: The Department of Science & Technology, A&N Administration, Dollygunj, observed World Ozone Day 2025 through a week-long programmes from Sept. 10. The global theme was ‘From Science to Global Action. This year’s celebration was significant as it also marked the 40th anniversary of the Vienna Convention, the landmark agreement under which the Montreal Protocol was signed to protect the ozone layer.
More than 500 students from schools and colleges of engineering, law, science, education, and teacher training participated in various events. The week featured a variety of activities including a scientific excursion to the Industrial Training Institute (Ozone Cell) and Air Conditioning facilities, essay and quiz competitions, seminars, and painting competition. These events not only enhanced students’ understanding of ozone protection but also encouraged creative expression. The culmination of the programme was organised in collaboration with Tagore Government College of Education at TGCE Auditorium, Sri Vijaya Puram.
The Secretary (S&T), Shri Neeraj Bharati, IAS, graced the occasion as chief guest. While interacting with students, he stressed that Science and Technology have helped the world in responding to Ozone depletion and the responsibility for action rests with each individual. He also highlighted the India Cooling Action Plan and steps being implemented by the Government of India.
The Director (S&T), Shri Jatinder Sohal underlined the role of Science and Technology in daily life and encouraged students to take the lead in protecting the environment. The valedictory function included an Inter College Students Science Seminar, followed by distribution of cash awards and certificates to the winners of various competitions.
