
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 15: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with a delegation of the Fishermen Welfare Association and members of the fishing community, met the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration today on 15th September 2025, to highlight unresolved issues concerning the Modern Fish Market at Mohanpura. The delegation expressed serious concern over the suspension of electricity supply to the Modern Fish market, which has directly affected their daily livelihood activities. This has been happed due to non-clearance of electricity charges over the years by the Self-Help Group whom was upkeep maintaining the said Fish Market as per the agreement executed between the Municipal Council and Self Heap Group.
In addition, the long-pending matter regarding the construction of the newly proposed Fish Market at Dignabad was also discussed. The MP emphasized the need for early execution of this project to enhance livelihood facilities for the fishermen community in the locality.
The Chief Secretary, after listening to the issues raised by the MP and the grievances presented by the fishermen, reportedly assured that the matter regarding the Modern Fish market issue is under review and will be resolved within a week, keeping in view the livelihood and welfare of the fishermen community.
