Sri Vijaya Puram, Sep 03: As part of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), the flagship housing scheme of the Government of India, a special programme was organized today at the Community Hall, Ograbraj under Mithakhari Gram Panchayat for the distribution of land licenses to 107 eligible landless beneficiaries as sanctioned by the Lt Governor, A&N Islands. This initiative aims to provide these beneficiaries with a secure place to call home, marking a major step towards achieving the goal of “Housing for All.”
The event was graced by Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman/Secretary (RD/PRI) as a Chief Guest in the presence of Gram Panchayat Pradhans, Tehsildar Ferrargunj, BDO (CD Block, Ferrargunj), PRI Members, and other officials.
The Deputy Commissioner (SA) handed over the land licenses to landless beneficiaries from various Gram Panchayats under the jurisdiction of CD Block Ferrargunj. Each beneficiary was allotted 50 square meters of land for the construction of houses under the PMAY-G scheme. Additionally, financial support of ₹1.20 lakh will be provided to each beneficiary in three installments, along with₹12,000 for construction of IHHLs under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and 90 mandays of employment under the MGNREGA scheme.
The Deputy Commissioner (SA) urged the beneficiaries to utilize the scheme’s benefits effectively. He emphasized that the true purpose of the PMAY-G scheme will be fulfilled when the beneficiaries not only construct their houses but also shift in after obtaining necessary water and electricity connections.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable energy, the Deputy Commissioner (SA) encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana scheme. By installing solar panels on their rooftops, they can significantly reduce their electricity bills and contribute to the island’s power conservation efforts.
As these beneficiaries embark on their journey towards homeownership, it is expected that this initiative will have a ripple effect, inspire others and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
