Sri Vijaya Puram, August 7:Mr. R. Madhavan, Up-Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, North & Middle Andaman District, has urged the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to ensure immediate completion and opening of the 100-bedded hostel at ANCOL, Brookshabad, Sri Vijaya Puram.
In his letter, Mr. Madhavan expressed concern over the hostel remaining unused for more than 1.5 years due to pending civil and electrical works. The facility, built at a cost of ₹7 crores, was envisioned to provide safe accommodation for outstation students, many of whom come from remote villages.
Mr. Madhavan highlighted that the delay has forced students, particularly teenagers from economically weaker sections, to stay in costly and often unsafe rented accommodations. While temporary hostel arrangements have been made, they are insufficient to meet the growing demand.
He further requested the Chief Secretary to visit the hostel site personally to assess the ground realities and issue appropriate directions for its timely inauguration. He emphasized that the completion of the hostel would not only safeguard students but also strengthen the future of the Islands by ensuring access to safe housing and quality education.
