Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 24: Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee of ANTCC has raised serious concerns over persistent traffic congestion on the vital stretch of road from the Airport Entry/Exit to Garacharma District Hospital.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, Mr. Bhasker highlighted the growing burden on this route, citing the increased movement of school vehicles, airport traffic, and rising commercial activity in the Bathubasti market area as key contributors to the congestion, especially during peak hours.
“The severe traffic jams on this stretch directly hamper the movement of ambulances and other essential services, impacting timely medical care for patients,” the letter noted.
Calling the situation critical, Mr. Bhasker urged the Chief Secretary to personally inspect the area along with the Chief Engineer of the APWD and representatives from the Airport Authority.
He further pointed out that several parts of the road offer scope for widening on both sides, which could immediately help ease the bottleneck.
Raising a further concern, he noted that the Airport Authority has constructed a boundary wall along the route, which, he believes, should not have been done at this juncture.
Mr. Bhasker recommended few measures for resolving this issue such as Road widening at all feasible points, Construction of flyovers in highly congested areas and clearing of abandoned or damaged vehicles along the roadside that restrict traffic flow.
He concluded by requesting prompt intervention from the administration to mitigate the ongoing problem.
