Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 21: The Hindu Rashtra Shakti has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Secretary, and Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman) to consider allotting Marina Park (near the Rajiv Gandhi Statue) as the venue for the upcoming immersion ceremonies of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Durga idols.
In its representation, the organisation highlighted that the Chatham site, traditionally used for idol immersion, has become unviable this year due to restrictions on the Chatham Bridge, where heavy vehicles are barred and only essential goods vehicles with speed restrictions are permitted. The alternative site allotted at Junglighat was also flagged as problematic, citing severe traffic congestion, damaged approach roads, and inconvenience to residents of the densely populated area during processions.
Proposing Marina Park as a more suitable alternative, the organisation emphasized that the site offers good road conditions, ample space for devotees, better safety, and sufficient parking facilities, making it ideal for a smooth and peaceful immersion ceremony.
The organisation also underscored its commitment to environmental protection, suggesting that the UT Administration launch a dedicated beach clean-up drive the morning after immersion. It recommended collaboration with the Sri Vijayapuram Municipal Council, NCC cadets, JNRM and college students, Coast Guard, NGOs, and volunteers to restore the beach and safeguard the marine ecosystem.
“We humbly request the Administration to grant necessary permission for Marina Park to be used as the immersion site in public interest,” said Mr. Angshuman Roy, State Youth President, Hindu Rashtra Shakti.
