Ramnagar, Diglipur, 21st August 2025: A mass road block strike was successfully organized today at Kalighat Bazar under the leadership of Mr. Mithun Das, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Ramnagar. The event witnessed the presence of Mr. Asit Mondal, Pradhan of Kalighat; Smti. Pratima Roy, Pradhan of Nabagram; Mr. Srivas Das, Adhyaksh Zilla Parishad; Smti. Suniti Halder, Zilla Parishad Member and State Secretary of BJP Andaman; Mr. Shyamal Bowmik, Pradhan of R.K. Gram; and Smti. Alpana Biswas, President of Diglipur BJP, along with other dignitaries and PRI members. A large number of local residents and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives from the Kalighat constituency participated in the program.
The strike was organized to highlight key public demands, including the posting of permanent Executive Engineer (EE) and Assistant Engineer (AE) at the Electricity Office in Sitanagar, installation of a dedicated transformer at Kalighat, strengthening of health services at Kalighat PHC and its sub-centres, and improvement of BSNL connectivity with early commissioning of pending mobile towers.
During the strike, concerned authorities extended assurances to address these issues. The Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur and the SE of the Electricity Department verbally assured PRI representatives that a meeting would be held soon to prioritize the posting of regular EE and AEs at Diglipur Electricity Office. The AE (T/D), Electricity Sitanagar In-charge, provided written assurance regarding certain ground-level issues. The Medical Officer In-charge of Kalighat PHC issued a written statement confirming that all posted medical staff would remain at their designated places of duty and would not be deputed elsewhere. The SDO of BSNL Diglipur also gave a written assurance for the installation of a 2G network at Ramnagar and completion of the Nishintapur BSNL tower by the end of September.
The road block strike concluded peacefully following these commitments from the concerned departments. PRI leaders stated that while assurances have been given, they will continue to monitor the progress closely. They emphasized that if the promises are not fulfilled within the stipulated timeline, further democratic protests may be organized.
