Sri Vijaya Puram, July 23: A minor girl who was allegedly brought to Sri Vijaya Puram from Kolkata by a man under suspicious circumstances has been successfully rescued by police team of PS Pahargaon and NGO Prayas, sources confirmed today.
According to sources, a complaint regarding the missing girl was earlier filed in Kolkata. Upon receiving the information through their Head Office, the child welfare NGO Prayas, which has been actively working in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, took immediate cognizance of the matter and approached senior Police officials in Andaman.
With the cooperation of the Pahargaon Police Station team, the minor girl was traced and rescued. Following standard procedure, she was presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which then ordered her placement in a secure shelter home to ensure her safety.
Meanwhile, a team from Kolkata Police is expected to arrive in Port Blair shortly to take over the case and carry out further investigations.
