Sri Vijaya Puram, July 22: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Andaman & Nicobar State Committee has voiced serious concerns over the ongoing investigation into the high-profile loan scam in the Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank Ltd.
During a Press Conference, Mr. D Ayyappan, the Secretary of CPI(M) ANI, said that in a meeting held on July 19, 2025, in Port Blair, the CPI(M) State Secretariat adopted a resolution accusing the authorities of failing to conduct a proper investigation into the case.
The party expressed alarm over recent local media reports alleging interference in the investigation by senior police officials and certain influential individuals. CPI(M) noted that no official rebuttal has been issued by either the police or the administration, which raises further doubts about the transparency and credibility of the investigation.
Given the magnitude of the scam — involving hundreds of crores in public money — the party emphasized the need for a thorough and expert investigation by national agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department. The resolution reiterated the CPI(M)’s long-standing demand for such a probe.
Additionally, the party called upon the A&N Administration to safeguard the Cooperative Bank from further harm and ensure that depositors’ interests are protected. It also urged the administration to secure the employment of both regular and casual employees of the bank, asserting that such measures would help restore public confidence in the institution.
