Port Blair, Apr 10: The Guest and part-time Lecturers of local colleges were getting nearly Rs. 10,000 a month as peanut honorarium till now. Recently to save these guest and part-time lecturers from such exploitation and bring back honour for their profession the Lt. Governor had revised their honorarium as Rs 1000/- per lecture, to a maximum of Rs 25000/- per month.
But the mockery is that the Lt. Governor has passed the order on 22nd March 2013 but instead of paying the guest lecturers full salary from this month, the colleges have paid no salary at all to most of these lecturers till now.
When enquired into this matter sources told Andaman Sheekha that this happened because some Babus in Secretariat have shown their extra skills and added some more terms and conditions in the eligibility criteria which is causing confusion. These terms and conditions were neither mentioned in UGC order nor in LG’s order.
For example, in the order number 1020 dated 22nd March 2013 the Administration added a clause number ( 2) which says that “for appointment of guest/ Part time teachers the selection process may be the same as followed for selection of ad-hoc teachers. The rest guidelines of the guidelines of the UGC letter dated 05.02.2010 shall remain the same.
This new point has created a confusion hence the lecturers did not receive their salary for this month.
In Secretariat not one was available today to comment in this issue.
Hope instead of making things complex for these hard working lecturers the administration will make things easy for them and arrange to release salary as early as possible for them.
