Sri Vijaya Puram, June 24:In accordance with the directive of the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, mandating quarterly mock drills and sensitization programs, the Directorate of Disaster Management, in coordination with the Fire & Emergency Services and NDRF, conducted a Sensitization and Awareness Programme at the Community Hall of Gram Panchayat, Calicut, South Andaman today, wherein 60 villagers, Members of Gram Panchayat & Staff participated in this programme.
The programme aimed to build community with essential knowledge and skills to respond to emergencies and disasters. The Assistant Director, Shri Janik Ram from Director Disaster Management, emphasized community participation in Disaster Management to cope up the disasters in ANI, and he also stated that in Tsunami 2004, the UT faced large scale of property and life loss, and this sensitization programme create community level disaster preparedness.
During the technical session, the NDRF imparted basic life-saving training, including Search and Rescue (SAR) and Medical First Responder (MFR) techniques. The Fire Department demonstrated household fire-fighting techniques and provided basic knowledge on fire safety and extinguishing methods.
The Officer concluded by emphasizing the importance of applying the knowledge and skills gained during the programme, expressing hope that the initiative would empower villagers to better safeguard their communities and respond effectively to future disasters.
