Sri Vijaya Puram, June 24:As part of the Poultry Development Program, around 1500-day old ducklings of Khaki Campbell variety was distributed in 2 Gram Panchayats of South Andaman and 1 Gram Panchayat of Middle Andaman today. The distribution of the ducklings was done by the respective PRI members Shri Ajit of G/P, Chainpur, Shri Y Yenkateshwar of G/P, Namunaghar & Smti Sajida Bano, G/P, Mannarghat, in the presence of Smti Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (AH&VS), Director, Officials of DAH&VS along with villagers of the respective Panchayats.
Duck farming has been actively promoted by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services as a means of income generation, which has gained significant popularity among the farmers of these Islands. To support farmers and meet the growing demand for quality ducklings, the Department has made arrangements to supply quality ducklings under the Poultry Development Plan prepared under the guidance of Secretary (AH&VS).
The Department has initiated procurement of commercial eggs of Khaki Campbell and Vigova variety of duck at regular intervals from Central Breeding Farm, Hessarghatta, Bengaluru. The Khaki Campbell ducklings which was hatched in Central Hatchery, Dollygunj, was 1st of the series and the Department will continue the distribution as per the needs of the farmers.
A total of sixty farmers benefitted by the distribution and the farmers expressed their gratitude to Secretary (AH&VS) and the Department for fulfilling their long-awaited demand.
