Diglipur, June 22: The general public of Diglipur Tehsil has raised the concern over the exorbitant price of fish in Diglipur Fish Market.
According to information, the fishmongers willfully fix the rate and sell fish in Diglipur Fish Market without following the existing justified rate fixed by the concerned authority, the alleged. The price of fish charged by them is so high that it almost becomes reportedly double the price of the justified rate. And this is happening at a time when the vegetables and fruits are scarcely available in Diglipur, the further lamented.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, they said that if the fish sellers willfully fix the rate of fish and sell at preposterously high rates, where will the general public, especially the poor go? A common man with a minimum monthly income would not be in a position to afford the fish, the price of which is willfully rocketed without any check and control, they rued. Furthermore, two individuals, on condition of anonymity, said that the fish sellers often show belligerent attitude towards the customers when they put objection to the excessively hiked and unjustified price of the fish. They further said, “The fish sellers argue that sometime they sell fish at cheaper rate (which is also reportedly not commensurate i.e. higher than the justified rate) and then no one questions about the rate; but we do not want fish at their cheaper rates, we only want that they follow the justified rates fixed by the local administration irrespective of the unavailability of fish or the excuse of inclement weather conditions” they emphasized.
Irked over the inflated price of fish, the regular fish buyers said that they want that the “Price Chart” of fish is displayed in a prominent place so that the fish rate appears clearly visible to fish buyers, they demanded. And it is ensured that the fish sellers adhere to the Price Chart and strictly follow the chart, they further urged.
On the other hand, it is a matter of serious concern that the fish sellers allegedly give the buyers fish less in weight, as their balances are reportedly not stamped ones, they alleged. They urged the officials of the concerned Dept. regularly conduct checking of the balances of the fish sellers and levy heavy fines on the fish sellers in default cases.
A group from the incensed public regularly buys fish, then reportedly met the Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur, N/Andaman, Shri Kamleswar Rao S (IAS) a few days ago and apprised the authority of this exorbitant price of fish in Diglipur Fish Market. The ACDP gave them a patient hearing and reportedly assured them that he would look into the matter and set things right, they said. The group also submitted a letter addressed to the ACDP to this effect, they further added.
