Sri VijayaPuram, Jun 06: IGNOU Regional Centre Port Blair celebrated World Environment Day in collaboration with Department of Environment and Forest, Forest Extension & Publicity Division. The program was inaugurated by Mr. K. G. Russogi, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest and attended by Mr.VasudevSamadaar, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Lalita Singh, Range officer, Mr. S Rakesh Kumar, Camp Officer and staffs from Forest and Publicity Division of Department of Environment and Forest. The program begun with the felicitation of the guests and with the inaugural address given by Chief GuestMr. K. G. Russogi, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest. According to the theme of this year World Environment Day 2025 “Beat Plastic Pollution”, he brought attention to unsustainable use of plastics and explained about the harm caused by microplastic. He called for the collective action to tackle plastic pollution. Mr.VasudevSamadaar, ACF, has delivered guest address and rightly pointed out the importance of harmony between human and environment. He emphasised that we should live a sustainable life and should not be greedy and teach out next generation about environment conservation. Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob delivered the presidential address and advised students to lead a sustainable life and take care of their surroundings. Ms Lalita Singh, Range officer delivered keynote address and Ms SangitaMondal, ASO, IGNOU and S Rajesh Kumar, Camp Officer, delivered felicitation address to the audience.
In the second part of the program, a plantation drive was organised in the campus of IGNOU Regional Centre Port Blair where all staffs and students from IGNOU Regional Centre had participated.
