Sri Vijaya Puram, Jun 01: As part of the on-going Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, community-based Awareness Programmes on Drug Abuse and Prevention were successfully conducted at Guptapara Gram Panchayats on 27th May,2025. These initiatives aimed to educate the public on the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse while promoting early intervention, community vigilance, and collective responsibility to build a drug-free society. The programmes were organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Police (Anti-Narcotics), IRCA (South Andaman), and the Health Department. The programmes saw active participation from PRI members, Pradhan and Up-Pradhans of the Panchayat. Local residents also attended in large numbers, showing strong community support. The sessions featured keynote lectures by Ms. Asrita Falia (Project Coordinator-NAPDDR) from Social Welfare, along with expert talks from Dr. Santanu Ghoshal (GDMO-Homeopathy) from Health Department and Mr. Sanjay Yadav (ASI) Anti-Narcotics- CID Branch.
Discussions focused on the consequences of alcohol and substance abuse on health, how to identify early signs and take precautions, and real-life scenarios illustrating the impact of substance use. Speakers also highlighted strategies for raising awareness within communities, how to access de-addiction centers and available support systems, and the procedures for reporting drug-related activities. Important helpline numbers such as 112 for emergency assistance were shared with attendees. The programmes served as a meaningful platform for engagement and sensitization, reinforcing the importance of awareness, timely support, and a united community effort in combating drug abuse and fostering a healthier, safer society.
