Sri Vijaya Puram, May 25: In a landmark moment for digital journalism in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, The Wave Andaman — a new-age media portal dedicated to island issues and national narratives — was officially launched at a vibrant public event held at Sri Vijaya Puram on Saturday evening. The inauguration, led by Member of Parliament Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, marked a significant stride in media innovation for the region.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by dignitaries including MP Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, BJP national spokesperson and author Mr. Tuhin A. Sinha, Editor-in-Chief, The Wave Andaman, Mr. O.N. Jaiswal, CEO Ms. Anamika Karati, and prominent guests Mr. T.S.G. Bhaskar and Mr. Mohamed Jadwet.
At the core of The Wave Andaman is a group of dedicated local journalists and professionals who envisioned a space that blends verified, balanced journalism with deep-rooted community engagement. With a sleek, dynamic design and an intuitive interface, the platform boasts features such as a live news ticker, in-depth reports, and a robust classifieds hub that connects local service providers directly to residents and tourists alike.
Unveiling the portal, Editor-in-Chief O.N. Jaiswal delivered the welcome address thanking everyone present on the occasion.
The launch event also featured a compelling discussion between Mr. Tuhin Sinha and News Editor, TWA Miss Rashmi Rao on India’s shifting national security paradigm, titled Redefining India’s War on Terror. Mr. Sinha praised the proactive approach taken by India in recent counter-terror actions and drew parallels with The Wave Andaman’s proactive role in linking local voices to national consciousness.
“Congratulations to The Wave Andaman for connecting national issues to local people, and local concerns to the nation,” said Mr. Sinha. He further praised the platform for being steered by both seasoned and young professionals and highlighted that passion and vision are what drive such bold ventures—irrespective of age.
CEO Ms. Anamika Karati proposed the vote of thanks.
Miss Rashmi Rao, gave the audience a guided walkthrough of the website’s various sections, from in-depth island reportage and national opinion pieces to sports, food and culture, and offbeat island stories. One of the standout features discussed was the subscription-based content zone, which promises exclusive editorial pieces and investigative features.
Veteran businessman and social activist Mr. T.S.G. Bhaskar expressed his admiration for the initiative, recalling his early encounters with journalism and commending the editorial team for their courage and professionalism. “Journalism is not for the faint-hearted. But Mr. Jaiswal and his team are cut out for this—no yellow journalism, just truth,” Bhaskar remarked, lauding the platform as a milestone in digital empowerment.
Mr. Mohamed Jadwet echoed similar sentiments. “This platform is a bridge not just for news, but also for business and public dialogue. It connects local enterprise with global visibility.”
